Student Spotlight

What is your name?

Nathan Roberts II.

How old are you?

What grade are you in?

I am a Junior.

Where are you from?

Rhinelander, up in the place where everything freezes.

How long have you been in RVA?

I’ve been in RVA for almost an entire year.

Do you like RVA?

I cannot BEGIN to describe how much I love the RVA, the faculty is very kind and helpful. The courses are well-paced, which I appreciate a lot. I love the flexibility; being able to do class at Dunkin' Donuts, or go on long trips.

What is your favorite class?

I don't know yet for this semester, but last semester I'd go with either DC Written Communication (the material actually felt applicable) or AP Calculus (for the same reason).

What are some hobbies you have?

I enjoy listening to audio books, particularly Stephen King. He's written quite a few books, so I've still got a while before I need to find something new (The Dark Tower series is great.) I do other things, but not on a regular enough basis to count as hobbies.

What is your favorite RVA event?

Definitely one of the bowling events.

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

Going to college for certain but after that, I'm not sure. Maybe getting a job with SpaceX, although that would require a year of experience. But that can be done by doing an internship while in college. After that, I could aim for the stars and see about NASA, as their requirements are actually pretty lax. If not that, but something in the research field.

What class do you think is most important? Why?

The AP and Dual Credit classes. AP classes are weighted, so that makes them important. DC classes can get you that sweet, sweet college credit. If you meant specifics then probably math, as everything leads back to math.

What is some advice to be successful in RVA?
Well, I just finished my first year, so from a fresh perspective, staying on pace. This last semester I had to pull quite a few late nights to get caught up during the week prior to the semester end. Staying ahead is the best way, but that's just a cushion for staying on pace.

What is your favorite color?
Blue, a really vibrant blue, like electric blue but a bit darker.
