I am in 10th grade.
Where are you from?
I am originally from Florida, but now I live in the Ashland area.
How long have you been in the RVA?
I have been in RVA for a few days.
Do you like the RVA?
I am really liking it so far.
What are some things that have been hard to adjust to with being new?
For me, nothing has been all too hard with the change from public to home-school. The only thing that’s been a little hard adjusting to is not knowing people in the school program. That being said, everything else I think is pretty easy to adjust to.
What do you see yourself doing in the future?
If you are talking about profession/job, then I would have to say I don’t really know for sure yet. I would love to do something that involves people and/or traveling, but also a job that I can have a family with. I have always had a long list of jobs I would like to have like, Youtuber, dancer, teacher, photographer, blogger for a traveling magazine like national geographic. Even though when I was 4 years old I told my mom when I was little that I wanted to grow up to be a flying squirrel.
What would be something surprising for others to know about you?
In my almost 16 years of life I have moved schools at least 15 times, which wasn't all that bad. I like having random adventures. I have been a cheerleader and a princess (Literally, I won runner up to Miss Thorp, and Miss Congeniality), I have played volleyball, basketball, and softball. At one point, around 3 or 4 years ago now, my family and I had 7 dogs all living with us at the same time.
What are some hobbies you have?
I have many hobbies. My favorites consist of gymnastics, dancing, reading, writing stories, doing random photo-shoots with my sister, and babysitting. In the summertime, my sisters and I like to learn new gymnastic tricks until we have mastered them! Last summer our new trick was a front handspring. As for dancing, I just dance randomly around my room when rocking out to my music (As all normal teenage girls do, right? :) ) I read when I have extra time on my hands and I LOVE writing stories, I write when I have an idea usually or if I’m just bored.
As for our random photo-shoots, we will both be bored and pretty much look at each other or ask each other if the other wants to do a random photo-shoot. Our photo-shoots usually consist of getting dressed and finding a good random spot and taking at least a gazillion pictures, and saving them all. Then when we're done we go through and post our favorites. Finally, for babysitting, I have babysat the same kids for 4 or 5 years now. They are totally like my kids or siblings. I love them I was there before the youngest birth also.
You said you lived in Wisconsin for 5 years now, what was your first winter like?
I will never forget my first winter in Wisconsin, as it was amazing and torture. My first year we were in Mondovi. It all started normal, I woke up one day and it was snowing (I was 10) so I jump up and put on whatever clothes were closest to me. Then I ran downstairs to see my parents already looking outside smiling at me, and before I could run and attempt to try and play in the slight flurry on the ground my mom tells me to take a shower and get dressed for school.
So I run and grab whatever clothes somewhat matched enough to wear to school and a towel. I don't think I have ever taken a shower so quick I was in and out within 5 (ish) minutes. After I get dressed in my regular clothes I put on my brand new snow pants, that we got like 3 days earlier and sat in the snow! And remember that before this I was a complete Florida girl, I had only seen snow once or twice before this.
My school was only like a street away so I walked to school everyday so I got to walk to school in the snow (Which I was so excited about!) When I got home from school I got a few more layers of clothes on (Due to the now 3.5 inches of snow and I think it was almost like -5 degrees) and played at the park that was in front of my house until the street lights came on.
Later in the winter we got around I believe 7 or 8 inches around Thanksgiving. So my mom, dad, and I all went sledding for the first time on a really big hill. The hill was only past the lake that was in front of our house, so we all walked on the lake with the sleds. When we got there we all went straight up the hill, and after the few times of us falling on the sled sliding a little bit down the hill, we finally all made it to the top. It was kinda funny because at the top of where the hill started on the other side of the hill was a cemetery so we all looked at it then looked at each other and laughed as we pointed out how creepy it was.
We sled for literally 5 hours straight in negative degree weather (I was the only one with an actual snowsuit my parents hadn’t gotten one yet so they just had A LOT of layers on) when we finally got done with freezing we walked back and all of our legs were numb so we all got into a warm bath to warm up then we made hot cocoa and watched movies before bed. That year it was snowing like half an inch everyday.
I always dreamed about waking up on Christmas and seeing it snowing like in the movies, It snowed every single day except Christmas and Christmas Eve! Other than that, the black ice that my mom drove over that broke the car, my first sledding adventure, and going to my first ice fishing competition, getting scratched from an iced over metal slide, and finding out that Minnesota isn't in Wisconsin I would say that my first Wisconsin winter was one for the books!
What is your favorite food?
I love a lot of different types of food and I'm pretty good about trying new ones, so I do like a lot of different foods, but my favorites would probably be french fries for sure, chicken strips, my moms taco pie (It’s a layered dish of tortilla, beans, taco meat, and cheese), my grandma's sausage cheese balls (They are literally cheesy biscuits with sausage for breakfast), and grits (It’s a southern breakfast dish).
What is the weirdest food you have eaten?
Some of the weirdest food I've tried, in my opinion would be alligator, ostrich, deer (Which I know Wisconsinites eat a lot, but when I tried it I didn't know that) turtle, bison and armadillo.
