Yummy Tidbits: Summer Foods

The day has drawn near, school is almost out. That means grill-outs, swimming, and parties on summer nights. When you say summer, a few things come to my mind. Swimming, watermelon, flip-flops, ice cream, burgers, and corn. I’m sure very similar things pop into your heads, too.

As my last article for this school year, I’d just like to talk about some of my favorite (and most likely yours) summer foods. First, watermelons. Who can resist that beautiful, red, sweet fruit that keeps you hydrated? It’s a lot of water, hence the name, and the rest is practically sugar. I have a lot of good memories involving watermelon, such as making my sister fear seeds growing in her stomach…

How about burgers? I enjoy many meats on the grill, but I find burgers, simple as they are, my favorite. They always taste better than any you can get at a restaurant when they have those nice grill lines, sit sandwiched between two lightly toasted buns, and adorned with lettuce, pickles, mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. It pairs nicely with sweet, juicy corn on the cob, lightly dressed with butter, salt, and pepper. Or plain.

Lastly, you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! I love chocolate ice cream, and when I can put anything else chocolate into it, I’ll do it. Now, it may be too intense for most people, but that’s just me chocoholic preference. There are countless flavors and varieties, surely there's one for everyone. I love the smooth, creamy, a refreshingly cold feel of ice cream.

However, I discovered frozen custard and found the silky, milky, smooth taste is excellent as well (Thanks, Culvers). Ice cream tastes good paired with a cone, too. I like waffle cones, but I enjoy sugar cones as well. There’s also cake cones and waffle bowls, and probably many others. What is your favorite cone and ice cream?

Now, what are you waiting for? Roast some marshmallows! Dive into a lake! Eat some ice cream! Have a great summer!
